Dr. Mona McCullough is a Licensed Psychologist in the State of Oklahoma. She received a Bachelor of Arts, Masters in Counseling Psychology, and Doctorate in Philosophy from the University of Oklahoma. She did her Residency for the Doctorate with the Oklahoma Psychology Consortium, Department of Health, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. After licensure, Dr. McCullough became director of a Psychiatric Day Treatment that was a joint venture between Integris Baptist and Chickasha Public Schools. She then spent two years in private practice doing psychological assessments. Prior to coming to Restore, Dr. McCullough was a Psychologist at Oklahoma Christian Counseling Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma for 20 years.
The foundation of Dr. McCullough’s therapy is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with other modalities and techniques integrated into her practice. She believes that with training and experience each therapist develops their own theory of successful therapy. Dr. McCullough is dedicated to continuing her education and professional development, believing that a therapist’s ongoing learning and growth are essential for providing quality care to clients. She considers the relationship between client and therapist the most important ingredient in moving clients forward. Really listening to the client is the key. She believes each person has an inborn resilience, that there is hope for every situation, and that there is a choice that will make a difference. She feels honored to have had so many clients share their lives with her and in that sharing become aware of changes they need to make to enrich their lives.
Dr. McCullough came to the field of Psychology after raising her eight children and having several grandchildren. She married young and did not finish high school and had no college hours. She developed an interest in Psychology and began to study the lives of the major theorists. She began to talk to her family about going to school and remembers well the Thanksgiving Day her oldest son said, “Mom, don’t you think it’s time you quit talking about it and started.” The following January she became an undergraduate student at OU. Dr. McCullough is an advocate for men and women making positive changes in their lives no matter what their age, background, or circumstance. Dr. McCullough is a member of OPA and APA and is very grateful for the guidance and support these organizations provided to mental health workers during the many changes that took place during the Covid Pandemic. When Dr. McCullough is not working, she spends time with children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, friends, and church. She considers herself extremely blessed.
